Fantastic, Funny Bird Videos to Celebrate National Bird Day

Snowball, a Medium Sulphur Crested Eleanora Cockatoo, became an Internet sensation in 2009 as a bird with a very good beat. He dances to the Back Street Boys, Queen, and more. Snowball lives at Bird Lovers Only Rescue Service, Inc., and his caretakers maintain a blog about him.

They can moon walk, imitate a chain saw and car alarm, and dance on beat to the Back Street Boys. In honor of National Bird Day, we’re posting three of our favorite videos of birds. Not familiar with National Bird Day? Here’s a bit about it from nationalbirdday.com:

"National Bird Day" is not only a good day to take time to appreciate the native wild birds flying free outside our windows, it is also a perfect time to reflect on how we treat the native birds of other countries. While we have enacted laws to protect our native birds—such as blue jays, cardinals, and crows—from commercial exploitation, we fail to recognize the inconsistency in allowing the pet industry to exploit the birds of other countries.

Now for the other two videos:

This bird rivals Michael Jackson when it comes to moon walking. The researcher got some moves, too! Check out this video and more at Bird Cinema.

It’s a car alarm, it’s a chainsaw, it’s a lyrebird! Australia’s superb lyrebird is a remarkable mimic. The pheasant-sized songbirds are known to imitate the calls of some two-dozen birds species. But as this video shows, the creatures are also adept at repeating anthropogenic sounds. In all, about 80% of a lyrebird’s repertoire is made up of mimicked noises. Kind of makes you think it should've been called the liarbird.
