Move Over, Six Million Dollar Man, and Make Way for the Bionic Turtle
A shark attack on a loggerhead turtle named Yu Chan left the victim floundering...that is, until a prosthetics company in Japan got hold of her. Accustomed to fashioning human appendages, workers decided to try their hands at, er, building fake flippers, which they attached to Yu Chang with buckles and straps. The recovering reptile was apparently adjusting well when the footage above was taken, although as the narrator notes, to be truly bionic, she'd need surgery to fasten on permanent prostheses. Now, my questions to you viewers out there: What do you think of rehabilitation of this nature? Should it be used on other animal invalids?
